Filmmaker Rohit Shetty, who is currently busy with the pre-production work of his forthcoming comedy action film ‘Simmba’, has reportedly signed actor Sonu Sood to play the main villain in the movie. ‘Simmba’ is the official remake of blockbuster Telugu film ‘Temper’ (2015) and stars Ranveer Singh and newcomer Sara Ali Khan in central characters.
Reportedly, before locking Sonu Sood, Shetty had approached his good friend and actor Abhishek Bachchan for the negative role. However, much to the surprise of the filmmaker, the actor refused to come on-board as he was not comfortable playing a negative character at this point in his career. After Junior Bachchan’s rejection, Rohit initiated talks with R. Madhavan, but due to his shoulder injury, the actor had to back out even after giving his nod to the project.
A source says, “It has been a very difficult task to fill up the antagonist’s role in ‘Simmba’. First Bachchan Junior turned it down and Rohit was quite surprised; Abhishek and Rohit go back to the days of ‘Bol Bachchan’ (2012). After that, just when Maddy had said ‘yes’ we learnt that some unexpected issues cropped up which led to Maddy’s name being struck down.”
After facing rejections from Junior Bachchan and Madhavan, the director has now finalized Sood to play the part. Some sources reveal that Sonu was so excited about his role in the movie that he gave his nod immediately after the story was narrated to him.
The actor has played negative characters in many films in the past. His villainous role of Chedi Singh in Salman Khan’s blockbuster film ‘Dabangg’ (2010) remains one of his career’s best acts. We are sure that he will spell his magic once again in Rohit Shetty’s ‘Simmba’.
‘Simmba’ is bankrolled by Karan Johar in association with Rohit Shetty. Rohit is also the director of the film. Ready to mount the shooting floor in April, the film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 27th December 2018.
