Starring Ajay Devgn, Saurabh Shukla and Ileana D’Cruz in principal roles, filmmaker Raj Kumar Gupta’s latest film ‘Raid’ has put up a great show at the domestic box office. The movie, which opened its account with an income of Rs. 10.04 crores on 16th April, has closed out its first weekend with an impressive figure of Rs. 63.05 crores. This is indeed a good collection for a film dealing with a niche subject and targeting a specific set of audience.
After a decent first weekend, the movie held up very well on weekdays as the drop each day was less than 15%. Within its short box office run, ‘Raid’ has broken a couple of records at the ticket window. The T-Series production has just beaten Akshay Kumar’s much-publicised film ‘Pad Man’ to become the second highest grosser of 2018.
After a fabulous first weekend, now the makers will be hoping for a good second weekend too. But collections in the second weekend will definitely go down as Rani Mukerji’s comeback film ‘Hichki’ has also released across cinemas nationwide. The Yash Raj Films’ production has received good reviews from critics, which means it will be the first preference of moviegoers this weekend. Having said that, ‘Raid’ too has seen the great word of mouth coming its way, which will ensure good footfalls for the film during the second weekend as well.
Chances to join the elite club of Rs. 100 crores are very dim for ‘Raid’ as ‘Hichki’ and the next week’s release ‘Baaghi 2’ will claim most of the cinema screens. The film is now looking at 90-95 crore lifetime business.
