Fresh from the thunderous success of his recent release ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ (2018), filmmaker Luv Ranjan is now gearing up for his next film which he is co-producing with long-time associate Bhushan Kumar. The yet-to-be-titled film stars Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Rakul Preet Singh in principal roles. Spilling some more beans on his next project, the director reveals that the audience will see Devgn in a genre which the actor has not attempted for a long time.
“It is a space which Ajay has not done for a long time. We have either seen him in romedies or masala action entertainers or thrillers. Urban romcom space is something which he hasn’t done for a long time. So, I hope people will enjoy that side of him,” says the director.
When probed further, he added, “I am not someone who likes to talk about the film in the terms what the film is about till the trailer is out. With ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ also, I didn’t open the film in the trailer because it takes away the surprise of going to the theatre. I will be in a better position to talk about it, let’s say three months before the release.”
Luv Ranjan, who made his directorial debut with the surprise hit ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ in 2011, has established himself as one of the most sought-after filmmakers in Bollywood within almost no time. When he helms a film, the audience knows that something different is coming up in theatres. But since his next film is being directed by editor-turned-filmmaker Akiv Ali, it will be interesting to see if it attracts the crowd the same way.
Meanwhile, ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’, which hit the screen on 23rd February, has pocketed an impressive collection of Rs. 86.76 crores so far. It will close out its third week beyond the income of Rs. 90 crores.
