The daughter of Bollywood legends Dharmendra and Hema Malini, actress Esha Deol is all set to return to acting with a short film called ‘Cakewalk’. Known for successful films like ‘Yuva’ (2004), ‘Dhoom’ (2004) and ‘Kaal’ (2005), the actress took a break from films after her marriage with businessman Bharat Takhtani. Last seen in the 2017 film ‘Tell Me O Kkhuda’, Esha is now coming back in front of the camera after a long gap of seven years. To be directed by Ram Kamal Mukherjee, the short film features the actress in the role of a chef.
Revealing the reason behind taking up ‘Cakewalk’, Esha says, “Cakewalk is a subject that intrigued me purely on the basis of its content. It has a strong message, but one that is subtly conveyed in the narrative. When Ram Kamal narrated the story to me, I knew he would be the best person to tell it visually.”
The film will mark the directorial debut of former journalist Ram Kamal Mukherjee who has previously assisted Pritish and Rangita Nandy on over a dozen films. He turned a television producer last year with the show called ‘Bin Kuch Kahe’. “I always wanted to tell a story, but I was waiting for the right opportunity. I wanted to work with someone who has faith in my vision,” the debutant director says.
Esha reveals that in order to get into the skin of her character she will be spending time with her chef friend. “Considering my best friend Shilarna Vaze is a celebrated chef, I will be speaking to her before we shoot.”
‘Cakewalk’ is expected to mount the shooting floors in Kolkata soon.
