Talented Bollywood actress Richa Chadha, who will shortly be seen in Excel Entertainment’s forthcoming film ‘3 Storeys’, has reportedly bagged a biopic. Like Vidya Balan’s blockbuster film ‘The Dirty Picture’ (2011), which was loosely based on the life of Silk Smitha, Chadha’s next is also inspired from the life of a South Indian movie star named Shakeela who made a name for herself by appearing in adult films across various South Indian languages like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
Shakeela was one of the biggest actresses from Kerala in the 1990s. The biopic with Richa will bring forth her story from when she joined showbiz at the tender age of 16. Within a short period of time, she emerged as a force to reckon with. Her rising popularity did not restrict to just India as her films were dubbed in languages like Chinese, Nepalese and several others also. Shakeela established her supremacy at a time when the industry was dominated by male stars only.
“The film is the story of Shakeela, one of the most famous actors from Malayalam cinema from the 90s who rose to a spectacular amount of fame. Her fans were spread across Asia and she earned fanfare as a woman which was unheard of, back then. The film’s script was exciting and is a great story to tell and the story will make for a great watch for the audience. The preparations will begin soon and the film should be going on floors in end April or May,” read a statement by Richa Chadha’s spokesperson.
The yet-to-be-titled biopic is being helmed by award-winning filmmaker Indrajit Lankesh, the brother of late journalist Gauri Lankesh. It is set to go on floors this April and will enter cinemas early 2019.
