Legendary Bollywood actress Sridevi is no more with us but her illustrious cinematic work will keep her alive in our hearts for years to come. In her long career of 50 years, the late actress starred in a number of popular films across various languages. Her 1989 film ‘ChaalBaaz’, which was directed by Pankaj Parashar, is undoubtedly one of her most successful movies of her career, which helped the actress win the Filmfare Award for the Best Actress. Buzz has it that one of the leading Hindi film production houses, KriArj Entertainment, has acquired the rights to remake the iconic film.
KriArj Entertainment, spearheaded by Prernaa Arora and Arjun N Kapoor, has been bankrolling one content-driven project after another since their inception. Their movies such as ‘Rustom’ (2016), ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, (2017) and ‘Pad Man’ (2018) all have been well accepted by the audience and critics alike. If reports about them buying the remake rights for ‘Chaalbaaz’ are true, then it will be their first outing in the comedy genre.
According to reports, many filmmakers in showbiz are in a rush to acquire the remake rights for Sridevi’s great films after her untimely demise. KriArj Entertainment managed to be the first to buy the rights for ‘ChaalBaaz’. Not just the film, the banner has also bought the rights for its popular song ‘Na Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai’.
‘ChaalBaaz’ starred Sridevi in a double role alongside superstars Rajinikanth and Sunny Deol. It will be interesting to see whom the makers rope in to step into the mighty shoes of veteran Sridevi.
A couple of months ago, there were reports that David Dhawan was planning to remake ‘ChaalBaaz’ with Alia Bhatt. With the remake rights for the film with KriArj Entertainment now, it remains to be seen if Prernaa Arora signs Dhawan and Alia for the film or opts for some other talents.
