The untimely demise of superstar Sridevi has affected one and all at some level or the other. Like many other members of the Indian film industry, filmmaker Karan Johar is also deeply heartbroken about the sudden passing away of the legendary actress. Johar always wanted to work with Sridevi, but with the actress gone forever, his dream remains unfulfilled.
Karan had designed a project keeping Sridevi is mind. Titled ‘Shiddat’, the project would mark the actress’ comeback to Dharma Productions after a massive gap of 25 years as the last film which she did for the banner was ‘Gumrah’ in 1993. But since the actress is no more with us, the award-winning filmmaker is in no mood to start the project. It has happened many times in the past that when an actor passes away right before starting a film, filmmakers tend to cast another actor to fill in their shoes. But Karan Johar is certainly not one of them. He has shelved ‘Shiddat’ forever.
“Shiddat was going to star Sridevi, Sanjay Dutt, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, as the lead characters. It was to be directed by Abhisek Varman, who directed ‘Hasee Toh Phansi’ (2014) for Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. This would have been Sridevi’s first film with Dharma Productions since ‘Gumrah’, which also starred Sanjay Dutt,” a source was quoted as saying in a popular daily.
Meanwhile, Karan Johar is busy with his next production ‘Dhadak’, which marks the acting debut of late Sridevi’s elder daughter, Janhvi Kapoor, alongside newbie Ishaan Khattar. Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the movie hits the silver screen on 20th July 2018.
