Talks about a sequel to Mahesh Bhatt’s popular film ‘Sadak’ (1991) have been floating around in tinsel town for close to a year now. But as things stand today, no progress seems to have been made on the project.
‘Sadak’ starred Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt in principal roles. Released in 1991, the movie was an instant success at the box office as the audience fell in love with the emotional love story between a taxi driver and a girl forced into prostitution against her will. Blended with melodious music by Nadeem-Shravan, the story tugged the right chord of the audience and turned out to be the second highest grosser of the year.
While in its remake titled ‘Sadak 2’, Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt were expected to reprise their roles from the original, Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra were being reported as the newest additions to the project. But since Alia had her plate full of so many projects, she could not squeeze out time for ‘Sadak 2’ and the project had to be put on the back-burner. But the latest we hear that the actress has finally given her consent to star in the sequel.
It will be the first time when Alia stars in a film produced by her father under his production banner, Vishesh Films. Since Senior Bhatt has taken a voluntary retirement from direction, his elder daughter Pooja Bhatt is expected to helm the film along with acting in it.
When Mahesh Bhatt was asked about the film, he revealed to a premiere trade magazine, “We are in the process of finalizing things. We will make an official announcement in the next fifteen days”.
Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt has just commenced shooting for her forthcoming fantasy film ‘Brahmastra’. Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the movie is being helmed by Ayan Mukerji and also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan in key roles. She will shortly be seen in Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Raazi’ opposite Vicky Kaushal.
