A sequel to the 2004 hit film ‘Aitraaz’ in the pipeline?

Buzz has it that well-known Hindi film producer and director Subhash Ghai is planning a sequel to his successful movie, ‘Aitraaz’ (2004). Reportedly, the filmmaker has already initiated talks with actress Priyanka Chopra who played the negative character of Sonia Roy in ‘Aitraaz’ and received widespread appreciation for her solid performance. However, it’s yet not confirmed whether or not PC has agreed to come onboard.

Talking about the project, a well-placed source reveals to a daily, “It’s a new story with a new title. Subhash Ghai has already had a word with Priyanka Chopra and the two have discussed the film. She loves the idea of a sequel to a film which won her accolades for her performance in a negative role and is excited to feature in the second instalment of the franchise. She is keen to collaborate with Ghai again and has even told him that she will try working around her dates.”

Also starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor Khan in pivotal roles, ‘Aitraaz’ was one of the highest grossing films of 2004, despite clashing with Yash Chopra’s ‘Veer Zara’. While every actor pulled off their characters to the best of their abilities, it was particularly the performance of Priyanka that stole thunder from everyone. PC received Filmfare Award for Best Actress in a negative role.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra is busy with her Hollywood commitments. So, it will be really interesting to see if she manages to make some time for the next instalment of ‘Aitraaz.’ If she greenlights the project, it’s expected to start rolling in the second half of the year.

Priyanka’s last Hindi film was ‘Jai Gangaajal’ which released in 2016. Since then, her Hindi films fans have been waiting to see her on screen again.
