Kriti Sanon to replace Shraddha Kapoor in ‘Ek Villain’ sequel

Fresh from the roaring success of her last release, ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ (2017), talented actress Kriti Sanon has started work on her next project, ‘Arjun Patiala’. Produced by Maddock Films and T-Series, the romcom also stars Diljit Dosanjh as the male lead and has gone on floors in Punjab recently. The latest we hear that Kriti has replaced Shraddha Kapoor in a sequel to ‘Ek Villain’ (2014).

It has been in the news for quite a long time now that filmmaker Mohit Suri is planning a sequel to his successful film ‘Ek Villain’, headlined by Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor. As far as the casting of the sequel is concerned, the director has reportedly decided to go ahead with Sidharth, but for the female lead, he has roped in Kriti Sanon. The director wanted a new face as he could not sign Kapoor because her character dies in the first part.

“Though Kriti Sanon’s ‘Raabta’ (2017) didn’t do anything great for her, the actress was appreciated for her work in ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ that has turned the favour on her side. Same goes with Sidharth. His last few films like ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ (2016) and ‘A Gentleman’ (2017) tanked at the box-office but after ‘Ittefaq’ (2017), many filmmakers are said to have thought of approaching him. Also, Sidharth and Sanon have not been paired as yet so few of the makers are very keen on casting them together in a film,” says a source.

Sidharth and Kriti have never worked in a sequel before. It will be interesting to see how the ‘Ek Villain’ sequel fares at the box office without Shraddha Kapoor.

An official announcement on the project is still awaited from the makers.
