If you loved watching war films like ‘Border’ (1997) and ‘LOC Kargil’ (2003), chances are that you already know who JP Dutta is. The seasoned filmmaker, who last directed the Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer ‘Umrao Jaan’ in 2006, is making his comeback to direction after a huge gap of 13 years. Dutta announced his comeback film ‘Paltan’ in July last year, and today he wrapped it up in Chandigarh.
‘Paltan’ is a multi-starrer film which features an impressive line-up of actors like Arjun Rampal, Sonu Sood, Harshvardhan Rane, Luv Sinha, Siddhant Kapoor, Gurmeet Choudhary, Jackie Shroff, Esha Gupta and Monica Gill. Popular television actress Dipika Kakar, who rose to fame after playing the lead character in Rashmi Sharma Telefilms’ hit show ‘Sasural Simar Ka, is making her movie debut with ‘Paltan’.
Dutta is known for making larger-than-life war films which always tugged the right chord of the audience. His next is no different. Like many of his successful films, ‘Paltan’ is also a war drama. The director has shot the movie across the breathtakingly beautiful landscapes of Ladakh region followed by Chandigarh.
Nidhi Dutta, who is assisting her father on the project, says, “It’s an emotional moment for everyone associated with Paltan. Having made some of the finest war dramas of all time including the National award-winning ‘Border’, it was my father JP Sir’s dream to showcase yet another chapter from Indian history. Paltan is a tribute and a mark of respect to all those brave soldiers who died fighting for their motherland.”
Produced by JP Films, ‘Paltan’ is being presented by Zee Studios. The film will hit screens in the second half of 2018. The exact release date is expected to be announced soon.
