After winning rave reviews for his outstanding performance in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial ‘Padmaavat’ (2018), actor Shahid Kapoor has now moved on to his next project, titled ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’. The film, which has been in the news ever since its announcement, mounted the shooting floor today in the breathtakingly beautiful state of Uttarakhand.
‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ is being helmed by Shree Narayan Singh. It will be his second directorial venture after the huge success of his debut movie ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ (2018), which was headlined by Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar. Just like ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, his next is also a social-drama film.
The movie revolves around the problem of electricity theft, its scarcity and the whopping bill that comes at the end of every month. How all these issues affect the life of the common man in Uttarakhand is what the film talks about.
Apart from Shahid Kapoor, ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ also stars Yami Gautam and Shraddha Kapoor in prominent parts. Shahid plays a young local boy in the film, who is a diehard romantic. Yami, on the other hand, will be seen in the role of a lawyer while Shraddha plays Shahid’s love interest. The character Shraddha plays will be very notorious and effervescent in the first half of the film and will later undergo a drastic transformation in the second half.
To be shot at locations like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Tehri, Mussoorie, and Nainital, ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ will be wrapped by April.
Produced by KriArj Entertainment, the film is scheduled to enter cinemas on 31st August 2018.
