Aside from massive blockbusters like ‘Golmaal Again’ and ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, 2017 also delivered many surprise hits at the box office, one of them being the Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar starrer ‘Hindi Medium’.
The film, which opened in cinemas on 19th May 2017, did not only receive a great response from critics, it also garnered a lot of appreciation and adulation from the audience, especially for its subject and sterling performances by the lead pair.
After delivering a fantabulous performance at the cash counter, ‘Hindi Medium’ put up a great show at various awards functions also. The leading man Irrfan Khan walked away with the Filmfare Best Actor Award, with the film itself winning the Best Film Award at the glitzy night.
Now we have just come to know that the makers have announced a sequel to ‘Hindi Medium’. If all goes well, ‘Hindi Medium 2’ will go to sets in August with Irrfan Khan reprising the role of a Delhi-based businessman Raj Batra who is ready to do anything for the best education of his daughter.
“The story flash-forwards by a decade so five-year-old Pia will be in her teens now, around 15-16 years (old). The story will be a fresh take on the Indian educational system with little reference to the original,” reveals a source.
We have also learnt that Saket Chaudhary, who helmed the first part, will not be directed the sequel. Pakistani actress Saba Qamar will also be not able to join the cast for some unknown reasons.
To be made under the banners of T-Series and Maddock Films, ‘Hindi Medium 2’ will be produced by Bhushan Kumar and Dinesh Vijan. Kumar and Vijan have signed a multiple-movie deal and ‘Hindi Medium 2’ is a part of that deal.
