Clash Averted: ‘Parmanu’ to now release on 6th April to avoid clash with ‘Pari’

Avoiding a box office tussle with the Anushka Sharma starrer ‘Pari’, the makers of the forthcoming film ‘Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran’ have decided to push their film to 6th April 2018. Earlier, both movies were slated to release on the same date, i.e. March 2.

‘Pari’ is a supernatural horror film, which stars Anushka Sharma in the lead role. ‘Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran’, on the other hand, is based on the nuclear bomb test explosions conducted by the Indian Army at Pokhran in the year of 1998. Besides John Abraham, the film also stars Dian Penty and Boman Irani in pivotal roles.

It’s not the first time when the makers of ‘Parmanu’ have postponed the film. The movie was initially slated to release on 8th December 2017. But since Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s costume drama ‘Padmaavat’ was scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 1st December, its makers pushed the film to February to avoid a clash with the mega-budgeted period film.

After missing its February release date, ‘Parmanu’ locked 2nd March 2018 as its new release date. However, the makers had to delay the film once again as ‘Pari’ was also coming on that date.

Interestingly, ‘Pari’ and ‘Parmanu’ both have been co-produced by KriArj Entertainment. Had both the films released on the same date, it would have incurred losses to KriArj Entertainment’s head Prernaa Arora. Since it did not seem to be a good move, Arora decided to push the latter one yet again.

A source close to KriArj Entertainment reveals, “Prernaa Arora understands the business and knows the game really well. She couldn’t have had both her films clash; she would lose money from both sides in this clash of egos. So now, they have all decided that Anushka’s film sticks to its plan and releases onMarch 2, whereas Parmanu will now hit screens a month later, on April 6. That is also done to give both the films breathing space as well.”

Directed by Prosit Roy, ‘Pari’ is co-produced by Anushka Sharma under Clean Slate Films, while ‘Parmanu: The Story Of Pokharan’ is a co-production by John Abraham under his banner, JA Entertainment. The latter is being helmed by Abhishek Sharma.
