One of the most popular and influential actresses in South cinema, Nayanthara has been reportedly approached to play the female lead in Kamal Haasan’s much-awaited film ‘Indian 2’. To be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Shankar, the movie is a sequel to the 1996 film ‘Indian’, which featured Haasan in a double role and starred Manisha Koirala and Urmila Matondkar as female leads.
The project was supposed to take off in 2017. However, Kamal got busy with the preparation of his foray into politics, which led to the delay of not only ‘Indian 2’, but also his other highly anticipated projects like ‘Viswaroopam 2’ and ‘Sabhash Naidu’.
On the other hand, star director Shankar was also busy with his mega-budgeted sci-fi film ‘2.0’. Now since his movie, starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, is scheduled to hit screens in April, he will begin work on ‘Indian 2’ soon after its release. The film is expected to mount the shooting floor in mid-2018.
If Nayanthara, who was last seen in ‘Jai Simha’ (2018), gives her consent to star in the film, it will certainly add more weightage to the star power of the project. Besides the ‘Iru Mugan’ actress, ace comedian Vadivelu has also been approached to play a prominent part in the movie. The comedian has previously worked with Kamal in successful films such as ‘Thevar Magan (1992)’ and ‘Maharasan’ (1992).
Reportedly, the makers are currently working out with the dates of Nayanthara. If everything falls into place, ‘Indian 2’ will be her first film with megastar Kamal Haasan.
