Megastar Akshay Kumar, who is currently busy promoting his forthcoming film ‘Pad Man’, has reportedly signed a new movie. Buzz has it that the actor has given his nod to star in the Hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster film ‘Kanchana 2’ (2015).
Starring Raghava Lawrence, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen and Kovai Sarala in prominent roles, ‘Kanchana 2’ is a horror comedy film directed by Raghava Lawrence. The movie, which was made on a moderate budget of Rs. 17 crores, took the Tamil box office by storm and yielded approximately Rs. 120 before wrapping up its box office run.
If reports are to be believed, Akshay Kumar, who has previously starred in Priyadarshan’s hit horror-comedy film ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, will play the male lead in its remake. Confirming the news, noted trade analyst, Ramesh Bala, tweeted, “@akshaykumar to remake @offl_Lawrence – @taapsee‘s 2015 Blockbuster #Kanchana2 in Hindi..”
Bollywood is not known to have produced too many horror films. But it seems that after the humongous success of Rohit Shetty’s Diwali 2017 release ‘Golmaal Again’, filmmakers in the Hindi film industry have started taking the genre more seriously.
While no official confirmation has been made about the Hindi remake of ‘Kanchana 2’, we hope the film is made and witnesses great success at the box office so that more Hindi filmmakers attempt to make something beyond regular masala potboilers.
Meanwhile, Akshay is also awaiting the release of his mega-budgeted sci-fi film ‘2.0’. Also featuring Thalaiva Rajinikanth and Amy Jackson in lead roles, the multilingual film is expected to arrive in cinemas in the second quarter of 2018.
